9th Wageningen International Conference
on Chain and Network Management

(WICaNeM 2010)

26 May - 28 May 2010
Wageningen, The Netherlands

Broadening the scope of chains and networks!

new: WICaNeM 2010 is over, becoming part of living scientific history. This 9th bi-annual convention of scientists, PhDs, entrepreneurs, policy makers, consultants, etc., was a great success. Considering the presentations, and intense discussions, it has indeed broadened the mindset of participants, and furthered the management-related sciences on  chains and networks broadly defined. Wrap up: The preceding WASS-WICaNeM PhD-day delivered 20 paper presentations attended by 110 participants. Regarding the regular conference, some 220 proposals were submitted by October 2009, which resulted in 136 (invited) presentations, in 13 tracks, 2 workshops, a first book ceremony, and the Doorwerth Castle-diner, with 280 participants in total, from 45 (!) countries, culminating in 3 academic awards:
(1) Best (conference) PhD paper award, won by
Molnár, Gellynck, & Weaver: Chain Member Perception of Chain Performance – The Role of Relationship Quality;
(2)
Emerging scholar award, won by Klerkx & Aarts: Shaping championing and innovation intermediation in interaction: conflicts and complementarities in innovation communities;
(3)
Best conference paper award, won by Claro, Gonzales & Claro, on: Sales Networks in the Agri and Food Industry: The role of Centrality and Multiplexity

For those present at the different activities, we trust you had your share in the learning trajectories, for the others, you will experience the added value of the WICaNeM2010 in the various outlets available. For all, we hope this focal point in time catalyzed many new initiatives to be continued in other environments. See you again at the 10th WICaNeM, in May 2012.

new (26 May): Today is the start of the WICaNem2010 and WESS (formerly MGS) PhD-Day. The PhD-day is in The Leeuwenborch, Hollandseweg 1, Wageningen. This is the building for the Social Sciences Group of Wageningen University. This evening the Welcome (reception/registration) of the full conference runs from 19-21h in the Hof van Wageningen (former WICC), Lawickse Allee 9, in the center of Wageningen. Starrting appr. 19.15 is an informal introduction to the conference, and 2 presentations on trends in respectively China and Brazil. You are welcome!

new (21 May): Count down. Find here the latest edition of the detailed schedule of all the tracks and sessions of WICaNeM 2010. See you there, within a few days.

new (20 May): Additional travel arrangement! There is a dedicated WICaNeM-shuttle to travel from the train station "Ede-Wageningen" to the conference venue in Wageningen. The shuttle is free of charge and will in principle pick you up at the train station on an hourly basis on Wednesday-afternoon/evening and Thursday. See the travel page for more details.

(12 May): Looking forward to your presentations for the conference?! We hope so, for your conference schedule is more or less final. The (as always preliminary) detailed schedule of the program is now available! Find here the detailed schedule of all the tracks and sessions of WICaNeM 2010. All paper presenters can see when their presentation is (prelim) scheduled. The booklet with abstracts and the USB-stick with papers will be provided at the conference itself. Let's hope the ash clouds will not hinder your travel to the conference.

(4 May): Count down: Wicanem 2010 is due only 3 weeks from today. The number of papers to be presented is that large that we need to be strict on the criteria for presentations. Therefore, in line with earlier direct communication we would like to stress that presenters of papers should be formally registered before 9 May 2010, via the hyperlink 'Registration' listed in Menu 2010, in the left column. The remaining papers will have to be taken out of the list of papers to be presented. For those already registered, please check your registration, as we do not want to disappointed anybody because of misunderstandings.

The conference promises to bring together many visitors from various backgrounds e.g. from AgriProFocus (development organization), via health-consultants, till biorefinery researchers. Welcome to you and others interested in the management of life science chains and networks! Also for you, reader of this page, registration is open, via the Registration-hyperlink in the Menu 2010, left.

(20 April): The resubmitted papers have been assessed, thanks to the track organizers. Corresponding authors should have the result in the mail-box. For all who want to attend the conference, use the Venue/Hotel entry (on the left) to find the adequate (block) registration form for the hotel deadline 22 April. URGENT! Probably in this hotel no rooms will remain available thereafter. For Dutch standards, other hotels are rather far off.

Very important note: Hotel room block reservation for WICaNeM2010 has been prolonged, but really lapses by 22 April 2010! So make your hotel reservations as soon as possible, but certainly timely, as the rooms are very popular.

new: The deadline for uploading the revised papers expires at the 9th op April. The revised papers must promptly be available to be scanned again and assessed, selected papers must be reviewed again for the May-issue of the JCNS and the best paper award, all papers must be processed for the planning and scheduling, prepared for the USB-stick and (abstract info for) the conference-booklet. Also, the final program must also be made public timely before the conference. Therefore, we urge you to make sure that you do no exceed this absolute deadline, so the paper can be reviewed and processed properly in the further stages towards the WICaNeM2010-conference. Revised papers submitted after the final deadline of 9 April, most probably will not be scanned anymore. You will understand that non-scanned papers will end up with a rejection for the full paper presentation. Keep heed of the requirements on full author coordinates, a neat abstract and the prescribed referencing. Success with the revision.

Older news:

....WICaNeM 2010 continues and builds upon the bi-annual international agrifood conference to share the latest insights in the management of chains and networks. The theme of the WICaNeM 2010 is Broadening the scope of chains and networks.  Around the globe we find a growing body of knowledge on chains and networks, which is developing in different sectors and regions. We herewith want to stimulate the continued growth of this body of knowledge, facilitating the exchange of thought between different areas of expertise. Therefore the 2010 Conference will offer both established research tracks in the field of agrifood chains and networks and new tracks in the life sciences broadly defined, including: development impact of agrifood chains, intermediaries for innovation, medical and health networks, biorefinery, green logistics, ICT, sustainability, international purchasing networks, quality in international value chains, social innovation and more. Please look for the guidelines for authors in the menu on the left. Here you can download the full call for papers. Please follow the instructions at the Submission page (see menu).

The 9th International  conference on Management in Chains & Networks is due 27 and 28 May 2010, in Wageningen. Again preceding the conference is the PhD-day (see link: doctoral symposium), in collaboration with the PhD-council of Mansholt Graduate School (MG3S). This is on 26 May 2010. Ideas and questions are welcome at office@wicanem2010.nl

The best papers will be selected for the Best Paper Competition, and may be published in the Journal of Chain & Network Sciences. (Scopus-listed)

Sincerely,
